Intended Use:

Enterobacteriaceae (EB), often used as indicators for hygiene process criteria, is a large family of gram-negative bacteria that encompasses some of the most well-known food pathogens like Salmonella, Cronobacter, or pathogenic E. coli. For thermal processed food or ingredients, this provides an indication of the efficiency of inactivation treatment, but also as a prevention of recontamination. Testing of total EB is based on the standard ISO 21528-1 method, which is labor intensive and requires at least 2 days for the screening of negative samples. The method is intended for the detection of Enterobacteriaceae in infant formula and related raw ingredients as well as environmental samples. The method is also a complement to our iQ-Check Cronobacter Solution. Due to the sensitivity and specificity of PCR, results can be obtained in as little as 3 hr following a single enrichment in non-selective buffered peptone water (3564684 and 3554179).
